Plug in your extender:

The basic instructions are to open the extender from the box and to make sure that it is intact, then make sure that you have your pc or smartphone near you as it is very much needed to install your extender. If you want to setup a wired connection then make sure that you have an ethernet cable of the proper length but if you want to setup a wireless connection then make sure that there is a power socket at the desired location.

If for some reason there isn’t a power socket at the desired location then you can use a dedicated extension cable to connect it to the extender but make sure not to plug in anything into that extension cable and make sure to never turn it off. Once the LED stops blinking the extender has established connection to the wifi network. You can also set up the extender by downloading the netgear app and configuring the extender through the app. The extender automatically copies your main router’s SSID with an _ext at the end along with the router’s password and all the default settings. You can change the SSID and password in the settings by logging in to the default gateway.

The netgear powerline 1000 also comes with an option to add more extenders to improve and expand coverage. To do that you need to plug the extenders into power sockets and press the security button on one of the existing extenders in your network for about two seconds, then press the security button for two seconds in the newly plugged extender to connect it to your network. Mind you that the option for adding more extenders to your network is optional but if necessary, it can be done quite easily.

After the extender has established connection with the router you can customize your network or leave it as it is. In order to customise your network, you need to open your web browser type in the default gateway portal ip address, this will take you to the default page of your router then login using the default username and password given at the back of your router. You can customise the settings to your needs and you can change the network characteristics and functionality of your extenders. You can also hide your SSID and those extenders in places where you do not need a Wi-Fi connection.

For some reason your netgear powerline 1000 is dropping connection often then try rebooting it and make sure that it is in a favourable spot near your main router. Dropping connectivity issues have a number of solutions but a key reason for this type of issue could be an improper setup so try resetting your extender then try setting it up by following the instructions mentioned above.

If you have encountered problems with your extender and are unable to fix it then you can login to the extender’s gateway using the default credentials and run the troubleshooter in the system’s menu. There are a variety of reasons for doing a factory reset, you may want to change or replace your router or change a few settings that may require it to be factory reset.
